Optical Shop FAQs:

How Do I Choose the Best Eyeglasses for Me?

There are a few important factors to consider as you seek the best eyeglass frames. Most have to do with appearance. However, we also want you to feel comfortable in your eyeglasses as you go about your life! So, when choosing eyeglasses, it's helpful if you also take into account how you spend your days. Do you work in a labor-intensive job where your frames may be more susceptible to damage? Do you live a very active life that requires your eyeglasses to be more durable, or do you want your eyeglasses to reflect your professional side? When choosing your glasses, one of the things you want to be sure of is that they fit well. We can help you identify how different frames fit on the bridge of your nose so you can see which will stay in place and not slide down as you go about your daily activities.

Your face shape will be the next factor that you want to consider when choosing eyeglasses. If you have a round or square face shape, the glasses that are most complementary will be different than those that are suitable for people with a triangular face shape. Some frames may slim a broader face, others may create the appearance of length in a face that's shorter. Luckily, our experienced team has years of practice looking at facial features and identifying what different types of frames can accomplish.

Your eyeglasses are a necessary accessory but they're still an accessory! This means that you can have some fun with your selection and use your frames as a way to bring out your personality. You can do this through your choice of color, patterns, and different design elements. The color that you choose can also accentuate your natural skin tone. For example, if your skin is more cool-toned, you might look best in blue, gray, or black shades. Warmer skin tones may be nicely complemented by reds, browns, and yellows.

I'm Hearing about Computer Glasses vs. Reading Glasses. Do I Need a Prescription for These?

You don't need a prescription to benefit from computer glasses! Nowadays, many people who work on a computer screen for several hours a day are choosing to get these computer glasses. They aren't desinged to help you see better, they're designed to help protect your eyes from too much blue light exposure. With the special protective coatings on the lenses, computer glasses help reduce or even prevent the symptoms of digital eye strain, such as dry and irritated eyes. Prescription glasses can also be ordered with the specialized blue-blocking coating on them, so next time you order from our optical team at North Suburban Eye Associates ask us about it!
