Custom LASIK, or wavefront-guided LASIK identifies and corrects the individual imperfections of the human eye in order to create a personalized vision correction that can't be achieved through the traditional LASIK procedure. For standard prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses LASIK can only correct low order issues, such as astigmatism, hyperopia (farsightedness), and myopia (nearsightedness). Custom LASIK with wavefront technology can also work to correct the high order aberrations, or distortions found in the eye, that can affect the eye beyond common low order issues. The wavefront technology creates a map of the eye's imperfections that standard refraction can't measure, allowing the laser to reshape the cornea. Custom LASIK will not only correct how much you see (i.e. 20/20) but how well you see. Custom LASIK has the ability to correct issues that can occur with traditional LASIK including night vision effects such as halos or glare.
